Launch Uninews Feeds - By YourNumbr1Fan by Y-N-1-F Launch Uninews Feeds - By YourNumbr1Fan by Y-N-1-F
Since Google Reader has gone out of service, many RM-skin creators have been searching for another decent RSS service as an alternative....Alex Becherer discovered that the UniNews universal feed reader for RSS, Atom and OPML feeds seemed to work just fine, with a bit of his skill at coding. He released the UniNews feed as a temporary replacement for the Feed skin in the Illustro suite, and, with a little bit of fooling around from me I decided to tweak it to look good with my current HUD Launch setup.

There are 4 separate feeds in this skin. Of course you can add more, but adding too many will cause a drain on your processor and might cause RainMeter crashes. Even loading all 4 of these may cause your RM to crash if your computer is, say, factory and a few years old. Sometimes running all 4 is OK on my computer, but at other times, especially at startup, RM crashes and I get an error about "webparser.dll". The UniNews feed has been tweaked for performance, but, still, it uses more processor than the Google Reader feeds did before, quite a bit more.

To install, just double-click the .rmskin file (make sure you have the latest version of RainMeter installed).

Clicking the title of the feed will take you to the main feed URL in your default browser, and of course clicking any of the 8 lines of news posts will take you to those individual posts. (duh)

I left the RSS feeds set to 4 of my favorite 'conspiracy' sites, so if you're not into that kinda thing you'll at least need to change them. Not everyone is into fighting the Illuminati globalists! LOL! Search Google on how to locate RSS feed URLs if you don't know how. You'll also need to re-name the Title-text in each feed skin by opening the .ini file with Notepad and...

You can replace the text with whatever you want, or just add %1 between the quotation marks to allow the feed to auto-add whatever title the URL delivers.

Credits to Alex Becherer at the RainMeter forum for the code base, and none other than MrGrim for the image resources I used. Peace!

Looking for a VC feed to add to the skins?
